America’s Army: Proving Grounds is considered the official game of the U.S. Army. By any chance you were looking to train for the army, this is one of those games that might have some idea what your training might end up being. Instead of having mass armies going against one another, it’s designed to have small, confined teams go head to head for an objective. These small units will need to work tactically and strategically at all times. Take control as the leader of your squad or take orders yourself; how you decide to go out with your unit is down to you.
America’s Army is designed to have smaller maps, to ensure that you stay in the action at all times. Despite the size of the maps, you won’t get away with rushing everything; not in the slightest. You’re going to have to take things slow, play smart, and think strategically if you’re going to take the win. Without being too taxing, the controls are nice and simple to pick up. The game is almost designed to play like a military simulator, without the painfully slow learning curve. Each new map you get the chance to play on will be just as – if not more – memorable than the last.
As a squad you should be working as a tactical team, and that’s why a few friends should be brought along. Every squad needs a leader and half of the fun is seeing who can command the team best. Not every game is going to be particularly easy, but every match is going to be a fun experience for all involved, that’s for sure.
Counter Strike: Source was released around the same time as America’s Army Proving Ground. It was more focused on competitive gaming rather than an army simulation though. In Counter Strike: Source players will team up with others players online and jump in to a deadlock battle, which is fought between the terrorists and counter terrorists.
In CS:S Teams will either have to compete in a straight head to head death match. Or they will have defensive and offensive objectives to fulfil to win rounds. At the end of a set number of rounds the winner will be decided based on the team with the most points.
Call of Duty 4 was a huge success on PlayStation and Xbox but many player’s didn’t realise that the game was available on PC. Much like the console versions this game was ported over and also has a huge online community, you can jump online with friends and other players around the world to compete head to head. Although there was cross platform it was never added to this game. Despite the lack of cross platform servers many players asking for this when the game came out.
COD4 plays exactly the same as it’s console counterpart. Although many claim that the servers are better on the PC version due to the available hardware.
